In the field of treatment of severe forms of depression, there has been a discovery: it turns out, protracted depressive states can be treated with the use of drugs and, in particular, ketamine. American doctors consider the use of this strongest analgesic in the case of treatment of depression to be fully justified. However, it is only necessary to prescribe ketamine if all the therapeutic ones have been ineffective.

The effectiveness of ketamine for the treatment of depression was proved during an experiment in which twenty-eight volunteers with diagnosed clinical depression took part. Within two weeks, ketamine injections were given intravenously to each of them. The positive results of treatment disappeared within two days after the course of injections, however, in 15% of the participants in the experiment, the positive effect persisted for two months. 7% of the participants were found to be intolerant to the drug, due to various side effects.
