World UFO Day (Ufologist Day)
Every year on July 2, all ufologists of the world celebrate their professional holiday - UFO Day, which has been running its chronology since 2001. And it is timed to coincide with the unusual events of 1947, when an unidentified flying machine crashed on the date we specified in the state of New Mexico. This fact, by the way, used to be hidden by the military. However, many myths and legends were invented by eyewitnesses in this regard.
On UFO Day, there is an unbreakable tradition of observing the skies: many researchers from different countries arm themselves with telescopes, binoculars, video cameras and other devices in the hope of capturing something unusual in the sky - signs of the existence of a different civilization. And oddly enough, the annual observations nevertheless bear fruit: ufologists say that on July 2, there is a peak in messages from different parts of the Earth about the sight of UFOs. Although, who knows, maybe the aliens know about the existence of this tradition and specially show themselves to us !?
Also today, many ufological organizations are turning to the government in order to disclose available classified information. Researchers are sure that such a world base has already accumulated enough to prove the existence of intelligent life on other planets. Their conviction has a real basis. Indeed, over the past decades, thousands of documents have been declassified, describing the facts of the presence on Earth of representatives of other civilizations.
In 201, the Dutch ufologist Pablo developed the new international project WUFODO and published it on the network through a colorful website dedicated to a great cause - the joint search for alien life.
International Sports Journalist Day
Professional holiday International Sports Journalist Day began its existence in 1995. And the event is timed to the creation in 1924 of the AIPS (International Association of Sports Press) in Paris, which today unites about 150 national journalistic unions. The organization was "born" on July 2, and this event became the occasion for the introduction of a new international holiday.
Today AIPS, as well as national associations of sports journalists hold thematic festive events, including various meetings and awards ceremonies for the best media representatives in this field. A number of publications organize special sports events where interested journalists can prove their true commitment to sports and a healthy lifestyle.

Zosima the Apiary
On July 2, the Orthodox measure commemorates Saint Zosima, who was born in 89 in Thrace and spent most of his life in prayers, committing good deeds. When the ruler Domitian found out about this, he ordered the capture of Zosima and torture him. However, the saint remained unshakable in faith even after severe torment, then the ruler ordered the head of the stubborn beheaded. So he received martyrdom in the name of Christ.
In Russia, this day was called honey, because today Saint Zosima, the patron saint of bees and beekeepers, celebrated the name day. It was believed that it was on July 2 that the honey collected had the highest useful and tasteful properties. In this regard, the bees today had an unusually unlucky day: they were disturbed, honey was taken away, and going up to the hives, the owners sentenced: "Swarm, buzz and fly into the fields! And fly from the fields - bring the honey!". It is easy to guess that beekeepers especially revered Saint Zosima and never forgot about his name day, which, incidentally, was celebrated more than once in the year. And icons depicting the saint were hung next to the apiary over streams and wells. Later, water from these sources was revered as healing.
According to the bees, people could also predict the weather. For example, if the bees are in a bad mood today and do not want to fly out of the hives, it means to be soon the heat and the drought. Their excessive activity on this day, on the contrary, testified to the impending rainy period.
Historical events of July 2
July 2, 1698 - Received a patent for the world's first steam engine
On this date, inventor Thomas Savery received a patent for a steam engine. For the first time, a steam engine in the form of a "fire engine" was constructed in 1698. With the permission of King William, Saveri received a patent for his invention that same year. However, later it turned out that it did not have the proper efficiency, since the heat of the steam was lost every time the container was cooled, and the installation itself was quite dangerous in operation. Nevertheless, the “Saver machine” very quickly found application in production, and in 1707 it appeared in Russia, when the tsar ordered to install a structure in his summer garden for pumping water from the Fontanka.
July 2, 1860 - The foundation day of the port city of Vladivostok
In 1859, a convenient bay was opened in the Gulf of Peter the Great, which was called the Golden Horn. The Governor-General of Eastern Siberia ordered the founding of a military post in the bay, named Vladivostok. On July 2, a year later, the Manchur ship entered the Golden Horn, three officers and about forty soldiers landed on its shore. They began to carry out construction work to improve the post. In 1871, Vladivostok became the main port of Russia in the Pacific Ocean. The city began to grow rapidly: residential buildings, office buildings were being built, industry and trade were emerging. Over time, large trading companies, factories and mills were erected. In 1880, the post Vladivostok was officially proclaimed a city.
July 2, 1900 - The airship of rigid construction, assembled by Count F. von Zeppelin, made its first flight
The construction of Zeppelin-style rigid airships began in 1899. Rigid structures differed from soft ones in that their shells were not inflated with hydrogen, but were pulled over a light and strong metal frame. New ships became much larger; they carried more fuel and other transported cargo on board. Count Zeppelin built the first such airship at his own expense, and in 1900 he first flew under the control of the count himself. However, due to some flaws, the flight of the ship lasted only eighteen minutes. Flying six kilometers, he fell into Lake Constance. Then Zeppelin took another six years to construct a more advanced hard-type airship.
Born on July 2
William Bragg (1862 - 1942) - an outstanding English physicist, since 1935 the president of the Royal Society of London and the founder of X-ray analysis. He was awarded (together with his son) the Nobel Prize for certain merits in the field of atomic structure of crystals.
Hans Bethe (1906 - 2005) - the famous scientist of the 20th century, a theoretical physicist, awarded the Nobel "for his outstanding contribution to the theory of nuclear reactions, in particular, for his discovery regarding the source of energy of stars." He participated in the development of the atomic bomb, however, realizing the danger of this weapon, he began to actively oppose the nuclear threat on the planet.
Victor Kalnbers (born in 1928) - Director of the Riga Research Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics. Member of many academies and medical associations. Kalnbers is the first doctor in the Soviet Union to have undergone a complicated sex reassignment surgery and is the author of many scientific works, studies and inventions.
